Review | Hot Octopuss Pocket Pulse w/remote
Disclosure: I was sent the Pocket Pulse (remote) for this review for free by Hot Octopuss and would like to thank them for the opportunity to put it through its paces.
The Packaging:
The Hot Octopuss Pocket Pulse comes packaged in a small, sleek looking cardboard box with bronze and grey colouring. Branding on the top and all around various images of the product along with helpful information about it and how to use it.
Within the box you will find a plastic tray that holds the Pocket Pulse, a USB charging cable, the remote control and a storage bag to keep it all in. There is also a small booklet with more in depth product details and instructions. All in all, pretty damn good.
The Hot Octopuss Pocket Pulse:
The Pocket Pulse is the new vibrating stroker or “Guybrator” if you prefer from Hot Octopuss. It is based on their already very successful Pulse and Pulse Duo series of toys which I have previously reviewed and continue to LOVE!
It is made from body safe silicone and ABS plastic and features two motors working in tandem to create its vibrations. It is lightweight, weighing in at about 200 grams and has an ergonomic design for both ease of use and comfort. It is USB rechargeable and is also 100% waterproof which makes cleaning it after use a breeze and also allows it to be used in the bath or shower.
It is simple to use, with only two buttons to control it. A plus to switch it on and increase the intensity through its seven levels and a minus button to decrease and to switch the product off after use. If you have the version that comes with a remote this has the same buttons but allows for more hands free use as well as the ability to allow a partner to join in by taking control of the toy.
In Use:
I will be the first to admit that I have very little desire to read instructions and or promotional material. In fact when Hot Octopuss offered me the Pocket Pulse to review I said yes on the assumption that the product was a more compact, lightweight version of the Pulse 3 that I know and love. When the Pocket Pulse arrived I managed to contain my excitement only long enough to take the pictures for the review before tearing open the box.
At first my initial assessment of what I had in my hand was correct, it was a smaller version of the Pulse 3, it looked like one and thus will function like one. My first impressions of the overall look of the Pocket Pulse was mostly positive. I liked the smaller size, I liked how comfortable it felt in my hand, the silicone was firm and smooth, outside of the deliberately placed ridges. I wasn’t a fan of the amount of plastic however, nor the raised plastic buttons.
The charging port was simple to find and when plugged in a red light appears next to the connector to show that it is charging and appears blue when fully charged, which took about an hour or so. Once it was done it was straight to work and by work I mean wanking and this is where reading instructions would have been helpful. Not because I couldn’t figure out how to the Pocket Pulse, but because what I was expecting was not what I got. I was so geared up to feel the same sensations that I get with the Pulse 3 that when I got my cock in the Pocket Pulse and felt those initial vibrations I was so disappointed.
I turned up the vibrations lay back and let it do its thing but I just became increasingly more frustrated as it just wasn’t doing what I expected it to do. The vibrations were just all wrong and after a while I switched it out for the Pulse 3 to end my suffering before storming down the stairs, pissed off and loading up the website to see how much this thing was going to cost people. Then I actually read the product details….
Why didn’t it feel like the Pulse 3? Because the Pocket Pulse doesn’t have the same technology, there is no oscillating plate, why didn’t it work like the Pulse 3? Because the Pocket Pulse isn’t designed to be used in the same way. In fact, short of looking like the Pulse 3, the Pocket Pulse is it’s own toy…who’d have thought?
The Pocket Pulse is designed to be used much like a traditional stroker in that your regular wanking wrist action is required to get the most out of it. So with some lube, my cock in there and jacking off normally the toy works really fucking well. The vibrations aren’t as deep as that of the Pulse 3 but when utilised correctly they felt really good along with the stroking, which the ridges and grooves help enhance. I found that my personal favourite setting was number 4 that worked really well with faster stroking as well as slower, more teasing type stroking.
The silicone arm could be easily squeezed in to create a tighter feel that really allowed the vibrations to penetrate through and I found that the Pocket Pulse being lighter certainly didn’t end up hurting my wrist after prolonged mole whacking. Having the remote was a mixed blessing, on the good side of things was that I could control the vibrations from the other hand without having to stop stroking or readjust hand position which is awesome. However I found that the remote was a little unresponsive, sometimes having to push a button several times to get it to change the speed once. I would have liked the remote to be able to switch the Pocket Pulse off as well, but unfortunately this can only been done from the main unit.
One of the great things about the Pulse 3 was that it worked well as a couples toy, the remote obviously helps with that but the power that it had made it quite good for your partner to grind against at the same time. Personally I feel the Pocket Pulse falls short in this instance, it isn’t powerful enough and also the shape has been designed for the cock wielders pleasure and comfort. The ridge and seam on the plastic is terrible for the grinding purpose in comparison to that of the Pulse 3’s silicone.
The completely waterproof nature of the Pocket Pulse though is fantastic and while I am personally not much of a fan of dicking around with toys in the shower or bath, the fact that both the toy and the remote can be is an awesome touch. For me it just means that I don’t have to be overly careful when it comes to cleaning it which is a big win in my books.
Conclusion:
Right off the bat I’m going to say that the Pocket Pulse isn’t as good as the Pulse 3 and that if you have the money then I feel it is worth putting the extra coins into getting the latter. Hot Octopuss have just shot themselves in the foot by making something previously that is near impossible to beat, in my opinion of course. That said, I believe that the Pocket Pulse is actually a great toy and is by and large better than pretty much every stroker that I have had the pleasure/displeasure of using.
As I’ve already mentioned, I don’t like the amount of plastic and the buttons feel a little cheap and shitty but that does make it lighter and more comfortable to use over prolonged wanking. It also brings the cost down so you can sell it at a lower price. The only other aspect that I had an issue with was the reliability of the remote, sometimes requiring several goes to get it to do what I wanted. Some people may have issue with how loud the toy is, particularly if they are wanting to be discreet but for me I don’t give a fuck if people know I’m wanking in the comfort of my own home.
The vibrations are powerful and rumbly and are well dispersed across the entire toy, really enhancing your wanking pleasure and making it easy to make a mess of yourself. It’s a flexible and versatile stroker that you can either enjoy by yourself or to a degree with a partner, depending on how you want to use it. As previously mentioned, being completely waterproof is great for those that enjoy that kinda thing and of course being rechargable is great as well.
At £69.00 for the Pocket Pulse and £75.00 for the the Pocket Pulse with remote it is by and far the best stroker that I’ve used within its price range and I would highly recommend it.
